Giveaway Swag.

UPS brought us a present! Today we got a knock on the door and it was the UPS man with a big box.  I think it’s our prize from Mommy blogger Janis’s Thomas and Friends Giveaway .  I received my winning notification email on December 10th and I wasn’t sure they would send it all the way to Hawaii, but it arrived just in time for Christmas. What’s in the box? A Thomas the Train: TrackMaster Cranky and Flynn Save the Day Playset.

Whoa this thing looks big, lol. I thought it was just a simple train set but after looking it up in more detail on Amazon and ToysRus it looks like Cranky is a fully operational remote controlled crane. It’s a little to old for my tots but I think I know a little boy that would love this.

December Giveaway Wins

bootswhiteNumber of View: 156

So I started entering giveaways again this month to see what last min swag I could score before Christmas. So far I’ve won 2 giveaways. The first one a $50 gift card to Amazon from Heather at Home Ec 101. It a fun little website about cooking, cleaning and organizing. The second to arrive in my inbox was a $25 gift certificate to My Baby Clothes Boutique. I’m not sure if this prize came from a blog giveaway or if I was just a randomly picked FB fan. I got the email directly from My Baby Clothes Boutique and it didn’t say anything about how I won. Just that I won.

The good thing about these wins was that they were both sent to me electronically so I just went shopping and used the code they gave me. I found shopping at My Baby Clothes Boutique difficult because the sizes where very limited. When ever I found a style I wanted it was never available in the right size. When I tried to shop by size it wasn’t very accurate with the results so I still had a hard time finding a size I needed. I ended up in the shoe section and they have a whole lot of really cute shoes. I picked out these little white boots for my baby girl. The sizes only went by months so since she will be two in January I chose the 24-36 month size. When the boots arrive they ended up being a size 7 (one size too big). One thing I really liked was the free shipping promotion. In my experience the most difficult and frustrating thing about online shopping in Hawaii is the crazy prices we are forced to pay for shipping. With most online retailers free shipping deals usually excludes Hawaii, but I was able to place my order no problem (with free shipping) and it arrived promptly within 2-3 business days ;) She really loves her new shoes even though they are a little roomy she’s was able to get around in them without much trouble.

I used my second Win to purchase some last min Christmas presents for my babies. I got a Fisher Price Laugh and Dance Puppy and a Chunky Alphabet puzzle by Melissa and Doug. Both toys my kids have on occasion cried over because we left the store without them. Yay I can’t wait for Christmas. My subtotal at Amazon was around $44, but with the shipping and the gift card I did end up paying around $17. I recently priced that puppy at our local wal-mart for $45 and the Melissa and Doug puzzle is only available at a fancy toy shop at Ala Moana for around $20. So compared to Hawaii prices it wasn’t a bad deal. I mainly just paid a hefty $20 fee to ensure it arrived before Christmas, because by the time my supersaver Amazon shipments usually arrive I have forgotten what I’d ordered.

Supposedly I did win a 3rd giveaway for a Thomas and Friends train set from Mommy Blog Expert. I sent my info to them but haven’t heard back. It’s suppose to be sent FedEx but I’m not sure if the sponsor will back out since I’m from Hawaii. The contest said it was open to US residents and didn’t have anything about excluding Hawaii or Alaska so we’ll just have to wait and see if I ever get that one.

Happy Holidays!

Butterfly Footprint Keepsake

homemade giftNumber of View: 255

This is a really cute idea I found on pinterest. You make a butterfly out of your child’s foot prints. There are a lot of foot/hand print ideas floating around on pinterest but this one is by far the cutest.

These little butterflies make cute wall art for your home, but with Christmas coming up I thought it would be the perfect keepsake Christmas gift for grandma. It would even make a cute gift  for your husband/spouse.

You only need 3 things.

1. Canvas

2. Paint

3. Little feet ;)

My daughter is 20 months and although her feet seem like they are still to tiny to me. I could bearly fit them on the 6 inch square canvas I had. But this project turned out to be a little trickier than I had initially thought and I wasn’t too happy with my results. I used some old golden acrylic paint that I had left over from my days as a graphic design student, but they were a bit dried out, supper sticky and hard to work with.  So I would suggest a few practice rounds before printing on you canvas. After 3 attempts and a very big mess I couldn’t quite get the same look. My husband still really liked them but I don’t think they are gift ready. So I will try another round another day.

Next time I think I will.

1. Get bigger canvas

2. Sketch the butterfly body first and use it as a guide for feet placement ;)

DIY: Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments

salt dough gift tag party favorsNumber of View: 670

Last year I decorated my Christmas tree with homemade salt dough ornaments. Salt dough ornaments are so easy to make and I love how the plain white stands out against the dark green pines. But Salt dough is not limited to ornaments they also make great gift tags, party favors and you can string them together with ribbon as garland. Salt dough is also a fun craft for kids. Plan salt dough can be decorated in a variety of ways your kids will have a blast.

Salt Dough Recipe:

1/2 cup salt

1/2 cup warm water

1 cup flour

Mix all ingredients together. Need well for 8-10 mins. Roll out dough and use cookie cutters or hand form shapes.

Bake at 200 degrees for 4-6 hours or until dry.

Decorate anyway you want.

These ornaments can not get wet and do not do well in high humidity. Seal with a coat of paint to keep these for a life time.

My salt dough ornaments are available on my etsy site.

Here are some of the designs.
