Our Soldier Brother

Just found out via facebook that my brother in law received our first care package today. We sent it priority mail last week Friday. It went from Hawaii to Afghanistan in only 1 week!!! This was my first time sending a care package so I had no idea what to send. I’m going to blog about it to share ideas and brainstorm our goad is to send him something at least once a month through out the course of his deployment.

What we sent:

Snacks: mostly local kine favorites, like li hing mangos, arrarae, Red seeds, sunflower seeds, and beef jerky.

He told us they go through a lot of toiletries so we sent:

razors, mini shaving travel kits, soap, deodorant, and we bought a small travel electric shaver from wal-mart that runs on AA batteries. Don’t know how well it will work but just thought we’d give it a try.

Misc Items:

Large pack batteries AA and AAA, playing cards, and some movies. And a small string of LED lights for a little reminder of Christmas.

He said his internet is too so to stream video really well so DVR TV might be a good idea too.

It’s pretty cool because he’s able to use the internet and go on facebook and skype so he’s not totally cut off from the world. He said it’s cold right now, being from Hawaii I have no experience with cold weather so if you have any cool ideas about what to send or if you have a friend or family member serving over seas please leave a comment and let me know your suggestions.

We used the large flat rate priority mail box, when you send this box to an APO address you get a discount so it’s only a $1 or 2 more than the Medium sized box. I would definitely recommend the Large box it doesn’t seem big but it can hold quite a lot.

Watching Avatar is causing depression in viewers

Floating Mountains of Pandora

A recent report from CNN.com states that viewers are feeling depressed after watching James Cameron’s Avatar Movie. They get swept away in the world of Pandora and feel a huge let down the next morning. One fan describes the real world as “cold and gray” the morning after, and apparently he is not the only one, but others are getting together in the Avatar Forums to discuss their common reaction.

The Videoon CNN is also very interesting. I can relate to what the psychiatrist stated of feeling lonely after watching a really good romance movie, because the gap between the “fantasy” of prince charming and the reality of a “real” person is so large, or you’re lonely and feel sad that you haven’t had that romantic experience or found prince charming yet. Sure I guess I have thought “Why can’t REAL life be like that?” but only for a fleeting moment. In the end what’s real is real and what’s not is not, there is so much to be thankful for and also so much beauty in the world to be depressed over a movie.

I love Madea! This was another good Tyler Perry movie, full of drama and heartache with a happy ending just how I like it. It had less Madea and family, but more singing, including Gladys Knight and a performance of the main song by Mary J Blige. My husband actually recognized her voice, he said “that must be her nobody sounds like Mary J Blige.” lol we check the credits later and it was her. As always I cried, laughed and went to sleep with warm fuzzy feelings. Can’t wait till “Why Did I get Married, Too” hits the theaters.

What is Playfish Cash?

Restaurant City is no longer a Free game. It has moved over to the dark side and added the dreaded blue coins aka Playfish Cash Coins , which just means there will be certain items in the game that you can only get by paying REAL MONEY.

How to Add Cash to your RC account

While you can still enjoy the game for free by not purchasing the Cash Items, it completely ruins the fun for me. Because now no matter what I do or how much I play I know I will never be able to get certain things in the game. ;( I just can’t bring myself to pay REAL money to buy virtual items in a game. Yes I know playfish has to make money too. And I have no trouble playing for Games like the Sims, but for some reason can’t get used to the idea of paying for a games I had so much fun playing for free.

Cash Items

It seems to happen with a lot of facebook Game apps. First for me to bite the dust was Fluff friends when they added Gold. After that I didn’t play a facebook app until Pet Society, which a few months back added Cash Coins as well. It just seems greedy in Pet Society. That game is mainly about collecting things. That’s the fundamental element that gets your hooked on the game, and then to make it where the only way you can get something thus achieve the goal of the game is not to play but to PAY seems like it defeats the whole purpose of it being a game in the first place. I wouldn’t have such a problem if there were some way to get the cash items by just playing, maybe they could have a cash coin price and a RC coin price.

Buy Fake Ing For Real Money

So anyone that wants to save time and pay can do that while everyone else can play. Ok well enough griping. You can now buy any ingredient you want for real money and also some special decorations for your restaurant.

Have fun I’ll still play for free just not as much or with as much zeal, but I still have some dishes to level up. Good Luck Everyone

Wow so I was so busy complaining about Playfish Cash I didn’t notice the new dishes until just now. We have a new Dim Sum appetizer, Mushroom Risotto, and Lamb with Pomegranate for a main dish, Tiramisu for dessert, and a goblet of Saffron Tea. All Looks Yummy the new Gold Tea Cup’s not my style but that’s ok.
