Thanksgiving in Hawaii 2011

Thanksgiving was extra special this year, my husband and all his brothers were home for the holiday. 3 out of 5 of his brothers live in Las Vegas and his youngest brother just got back from his first tour in Afghanistan. The Vegas uncles come back to Hawaii from time to time but it’s been years since they’ve all been home at the same time.  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and spent the next day at Pupukea Beach on the North Shore, also known as Sharks cove. Pupukea BeachThis little beach is full of little coves which was perfect for my two little munchkins. My kids actually don’t really like the beach, but they loved it at sharks cove.

It’s a great place to find shells and collect sea glass.

You can also see hermit crabs, sea cucumbers other sea creatures and fish making it a popular snorkeling and diving spot.

We didn't do any snorkeling but Amelie thought she would try on the mask

The final get together of the weekend was at my brother-in-laws wedding. The wedding was held at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs. Hughes

Quite an eventful weekend.

Summer Time

pooltimeNumber of View: 380

Aww Summer’s almost over already, but it’s pretty much always summer time in Hawaii. So most days you can blow up your pink green and yellow inflatable pool, put on the sprinklers and have a blast in the backyard. Or in our case grandma’s backyard. I know we are lucky. Summer and pool time all year round.

Water Park Babies

WaterParkNumber of View: 668

This week we went to the Wet n Wild Water Park. This was the kids first time. Needless to say they had a blast. The park combines the kids two favorite things Playgrounds and Water! My daughter is around 17 months and my son will be 3 in July. I was a little apprehensive about my son because you never can tell with him. We had his 2nd birthday party at 808 bounce an indoor arena of bouncy houses because kid love bouncy houses right? Well not my kid he wanted nothing to do with them. Luckily there was a tiny merry go round there and he became my Merry Go Round Operator for the day while all the other kids had fun bouncing.

All Aboard!

So I was 99.9% sure he would love the water park, and this time I was right. He napped almost the whole time he was there, but when he got up he was intrigued enough to get up and get out there. They day was definitely a success. Lots and lots of fun for the kiddies. Kids under 3 are free so we just had to pay admission for the adults. I know is sounds silly why would you go to a water park in Hawaii when there’s beautiful beaches all around Hawaii open 24-7 for free? One reason is my son hates the sand so he never goes near the water because he’s freaked out by the sand before he even comes close. And another reason is because there’s only really one beach without waves that I like to take the kids to and it’s Koolina. Koolina is a series of man made coves on resort property. The beach is still public but the parking is very limited and when the parking fills up they will turn you away at the gate. So you need to get there very early sometimes before 8 AM. It is especially hard now because school is out for the summer. I think a lot of locals don’t go to the water park because it’s expensive. They do offer discounts for military personnel and at some credit union members or employees and they used to have a Kamaaina Price but I don’t see it currently listed on their site.

Crazy Hawaiian Weather

LightningNumber of View: 271

Hawaii has been having the craziest weather. Thunder storms. In my short 25 years of life on Oahu I’ve never experienced this kind of weather. This past Sunday has the most amazing lighting show I’ve ever seen. We spent the day visiting family in Wahiawa. On our way home there were constant flashes of lighting. Like clock work every few seconds the sky would light up a bright purple color and most of the time we caught sight of huge bolts of lightning. It was kind of scary the lightning seemed to be following us all the way home, which was about a 30 min drive. It was also weird because there was no rain. Just lightning. I didn’t always hear the thunder either, which I thought was strange because I always hear the thunder, but rarely see the lightning. When we got home there were twitter reports of lightning all over the Island also stories and videos of water spouts on facebook. The storm lasted a few days. Monday it brought the rain and more thunder and lightning. We lost power in our building when a lightning bold struck a telephone pole on our street. The meteorologist are predicting another storm this weekend. Wonder where these crazy storms are coming from.

Here are some pictures my husband caught on camera.

This was a small one other bolts seemed to cover the entire width of the sky

Christmas Trees in Hawaii

IMG_0234Number of View: 365

Yes Hawaii has Christmas trees too. We don’t grow our own but they get shipped from the mainland around the holidays. This is our first Christmas tree as a family and mmmm it smells so good! I haven’t had a Christmas tree in years. Not since me and my husband got married and moved into our first tiny. We didn’t even have one for my son’s first Christmas. He wasn’t going to remember anyway and our apartment was just too small. Now that my son is two and this is going to be my daughters first Christmas I decided I really wanted one. My husband brought our little tree home from Home Depot today along with some colorful LED lights and a Christmas tree stand. I LOVE the smell and my son really loves the lights. We don’t have any ornaments yet and I’m still debating if I should make some or buy them.
